Professional Experience

Technical & Operations Engineer
Family Construction Company, Chetumal, Mexico

2024 – Present (2+ years)

After graduation I joined my family’s construction company, and what started as a temporary move quickly evolved into one of the most intense, broad, and rewarding chapters of my career so far. I took full ownership of an incredibly diverse set of responsibilities that spanned hardcore technical engineering, heavy equipment maintenance, site operations, digital transformation, safety compliance, and strategic process improvement — all while the business continued to scale and operate in demanding real-world conditions.
On the technical side, my most impactful contribution was leading the complete redesign and implementation of power factor correction systems for two aggregate processing plants that suffered from highly variable and synchronized inductive loads. I tore down and fully refurbished a 15-year-old automatic capacitor bank — replacing failed components, rewiring controls, upgrading protection, and recalibrating everything from scratch. Then I designed and built an entirely new fixed capacitor bank with 12 precisely sized units to handle the base reactive demand. The outcome was dramatic: power factor stabilized between 92% and 96%, all monthly utility penalties vanished (previously adding 21% to the base energy cost), the plants could now consume 32% more energy while the total electricity bill only increased by 8%, and we unlocked approximately 250 kVA of usable transformer capacity on a 500 kVA unit — eliminating the need for a costly new transformer purchase and installation. This project perfectly captures what drives me: combining power electronics, control logic, and on-site problem-solving to deliver solutions that save serious money and enable growth.
But power quality was just one piece. I went deep into fleet and operational efficiency. By implementing real-time monitoring hardware and automatic idle shutdown logic (triggered after 10 minutes of inactivity), I cut idle time across a 100+ unit heavy-machinery fleet from 40% down to 15% — translating to meaningful reductions in fuel burn, wear, and lost productivity. I personally led the company’s full Microsoft 365 digital transformation as Global Administrator: deployed and configured Teams, Planner, Project, Forms, and Jibble time-tracking for the entire organization, trained office and field staff, documented every process with clear manuals and FAQs, and built automated workflows that actually got adopted.
I created a machine-failure reporting system using Microsoft Forms that fed directly into Excel trackers and Planner Kanban boards, establishing an immutable audit trail and slashing average resolution times. Together with the workshop team, I developed a failure-risk inventory matrix (ranking parts by failure frequency versus production impact) that optimized spare parts stocking and dramatically reduced unplanned downtime. I consolidated fragmented daily/weekly reports into a single dynamic executive dashboard in Excel (leveraging Power Pivot, Pivot Tables, and advanced formulas) that pulled together production volumes, fuel consumption, jobsite costs, payroll, and more — giving leadership real-time visibility for faster decisions. I mapped out convoluted paperwork flows and replaced them with streamlined digital cross-referenced systems, eliminating hours of manual comparison work. I wrote simplified, standardized maintenance manuals for the entire fleet (complete with exact part numbers, recommended oils, step-by-step procedures, and diagnostic checklists) and set up preventive-maintenance tracking to keep everything proactive. Finally, I drove company-wide compliance with Mexican NOM safety standards and introduced anonymous feedback surveys that reported directly to the Director, helping foster a stronger safety culture across more than 350 people.

Part-Time Embedded Systems Engineer
Vamia Solutions, Mérida, Mexico

2022 – 2023 (1 year part-time)

During my final year at university I worked part-time at a local startup focused on BLE-based systems. I designed, prototyped, and rigorously tested wireless sensor networks and ultra-low-power communication modules. The role sharpened my embedded programming discipline and taught me how to deliver clean, reliable, production-ready hardware under aggressive deadlines.

Assistant Lab Technician

Anáhuac Mayab University, Mérida, Mexico
2021 – 2022 (6 months full-time equivalent + part-time during studies)

As part of the required 480-hour servicio social, I supported six engineering labs: manufacturing workshop, CAM lab, electronics lab, automation lab, chemistry lab, and civil engineering lab. I handled equipment maintenance and repairs, optimized scheduling and tool checkout processes, and provided hands-on instruction to students.

I trained dozens of students on professional tools including oscilloscopes, function generators, bench multimeters, welding setups, manual mills and lathes, CNC laser cutters and lathes, angle grinders, and more. The role was unpaid, but the wide exposure to real lab environments and hardware across multiple disciplines gave me a practical foundation I still draw from constantly.
